Heprealainen sana "ihmiselle/miehelle". Mahdollisesti johdannainen Heprean sanasta  אדם ('adam) joka tarkoittaa "to be red/olla punainen", viitaten ihmisen ihonväriin. Tämän nimen merkitys ei ole varmaa. Sitä käytettiin Britanniassa jo 500-luvulla ja mahdollisesti tarkoittaa "pientä kiveä" tai "komeaa" Bretoniksi. Vaihtoehtoisesti se voi johtaa Alanien heimonimestä. Alanit olivat Iranilaisia ihmisiä jotka muuttivat Eurooppaan 400- ja 500-luvulla.

Germaanisesta nimestä Adalbert, joka koostui sanoista adal "jalo" ja beraht "kirkas". Tämä nimi oli suosittu keskiajalla Saksan kuninkaallisten parissa. Normannit toivat nimen Englantiin, jossa se korvasi Vanhan Englannin samaa sukua olevan nimen Æðelbeorhtin.

Kreikkalaisesta nimestä Ανδρεας (Andreas), joka koostui sanoista ανηρ (aner) "mies" (Genetiivi ανδρος (andros) "of a man/miehen"). Uudessa testamentissa apostoli Andrew, ensimmäinen Jeesuksen opetuslapsista, on Simon Peterin (Pyhä Pietari) veli. Tradition mukaan, hän myöhemmin saarnasi Mustan meren alueella ja joidenkin legendojen mukaan hän ristiinnaulittiin X-muotoiseen ristiin. Andrew, joka on kreikkalainen nimi, oli luultavasti vain lempinimi tai käännös hänen oikeasta heprealaisesta nimestään jota ei tunneta.
 
Arjun
Moderni muoto nimestä Arjuna. Tarkoittaa "valkoista, puhdasta" sanskriitiksi. Tämä on erään sankarin nimi hindujen kirjoituksissa, jumala Indran ja prinsessa Kuntin poika. 
 
Armando
Espanjalainen, Italialainen ja Portugalilainen muoto nimestä Herman. Herman tarkoittaa "armeijan miestä", juontaen juurensa germaanisista sanoista hari "armeija" ja man "mies". Sen toivat Englantiin Normannit. Nimi kuoli, mutta myöhemmin elvytettiin englantia puhuvissa maissa 1800-luvulla.
 
Deshaun
Tämä nimi on yhdistelmä etuliitteestä De ja nimestä Shaun.
Shaun on Seánin anglistettu muoto ja Seán on irlantilainen variaatio Johnista.
John on englantilainen muoto nimestä Iohannes. Iohannes on latinalainen versio nimestä  Ιωαννης (Ioannes), joka juontuu Heprealaisesta nimestä יוֹחָנָן (Yochanan) joka tarkoittaa "Yahweh (Jahve) on armollinen". Tämä nimi on niin suosittu, koska se näkyy Uudessa testamentissa kahdella eri henkilölle. Molemmat heistä ovat arvostettuja pyhimyksiä. Devinin variantti. Mahdollisesti myös Devonin kreivikunnan mukaan. Devonin kreivikunta  sai nimensä Dumnoniilta, joka on kelttiläinen heimo.
 
Edgar
Vanhan Englannin elementeistä ead "rikas, siunattu" ja gar "keihäs". Tämä nimi oli 900-luvun Englannin kuninkaan, joka oli myös julistettu pyhimykseksi. Nimi ei selvinnyt kauaakaan Normannien valloituksen jälkeen, mutta se elpyi uudestaan 1700-luvulla. Elpymiseen vaikutti Sir Walter Scottin kirjoittamassa novellissa 'The Bride of Lammermoor' (1819) ollut Edgar- niminen hahmo. Tunnettuja nimen kantajia ovat muunmuassa kirjailija ja runoilija Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849). Populaarikulttuurissa Edgar nimeä kantaa Aristokatit- elokuvassa esiintyvä ilkeä hovimestari.

Tarkoittaa apua hepreaksi. Ezra on myös Vanhan Testamentin profeetta ja hän kirjoitti Esran kirjan.

Kirk
